Liverpool Consider Move for Tottenham Defender Micky van de Ven
Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven as they explore possible long-term options to eventually replace Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch centre-back has attracted interest from Liverpool for some time, with his pace, physical strength and ability to operate on the left side of defence making him an appealing candidate.
Liverpool’s reported interest comes with Van Dijk entering the latter stages of his current contract, which is scheduled to run until June 2027. Meanwhile, Tottenham have experienced a difficult beginning to the season under Roberto De Zerbi.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Van de Ven remains a player Liverpool have monitored and could fit the profile of their future defensive plans.
“Van de Ven is someone Liverpool have been aware of for quite some time,” Brown said.
“He has many of the qualities they could be looking for when the time comes to replace Van Dijk. He is left-footed, powerful and has also taken on the captaincy at Tottenham.
“Although Tottenham’s struggles may raise some concerns, Van de Ven’s individual ability is clear. If their difficult run continues, Liverpool could potentially represent an attractive opportunity for him.”
Despite the reported interest, signing Van de Ven would not be straightforward.
Tottenham recently strengthened their position by giving the 25-year-old a new five-year contract in August, before naming him captain for the 2026/27 campaign. Spurs also consider the Netherlands international an important part of their plans for the future.
Van de Ven enjoyed a busy 2025/26 season, making 45 appearances across all competitions, including 34 Premier League outings. He had already made 96 appearances for Tottenham before the start of the current campaign.
Liverpool are therefore continuing to assess potential successors for Van Dijk, but any attempt to prise Van de Ven away from Tottenham could prove complicated given his new long-term deal and importance to the club.
