Report: Liverpool Already Have a Decision in Mind on Ronald Araujo After Just Seven Games
Liverpool are reportedly already considering whether to make Ronald Araujo’s move to Anfield permanent, despite the defender having played only seven games for the club.
The Uruguay international joined Liverpool from Barcelona on loan for the season and has featured in all seven matches so far, starting five of them.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have a €55 million (£47.3m) option to sign the 27-year-old permanently at the end of the season.
Liverpool impressed by Araujo’s start
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Liverpool could seriously consider triggering the purchase option because of Araujo’s impressive start to life in England.
Sources close to the club reportedly believe the defender has adapted quickly to English football. His ability to operate at right-back has also provided Liverpool with greater defensive stability, despite centre-back being his usual position.
Araujo’s physical presence and consistent performances have already made a strong impression at Anfield. His arrival has helped strengthen the right side of Liverpool’s defence while allowing Jeremy Jacquet to build an increasingly promising partnership with Virgil van Dijk in central defence.
There are still several months before Liverpool have to make a final decision, and factors such as Araujo’s reported £210,000-a-week wages and his age will likely be considered.
However, should Van Dijk leave Liverpool next summer, Araujo’s leadership experience could become particularly valuable. Having previously captained Barcelona, the Uruguayan could potentially take on a bigger leadership role at Anfield.
After just seven appearances, Liverpool’s interest in keeping Araujo permanently is reportedly growing stronger with every game.
