Dutch Supporters Blast Liverpool Star After ‘Horrendous’ Display in Klopp’s First Germany Match

Dutch Fans Criticise Liverpool Star Ryan Gravenberch After Germany Draw

Jurgen Klopp and Xavi both began their new international management journeys on Thursday as the Netherlands hosted Germany in a Nations League encounter in Amsterdam.

Xavi took charge of the Dutch national team during the summer after previously being out of management since leaving Barcelona in 2024. He replaced Ronald Koeman following the Netherlands’ disappointing World Cup campaign.

Klopp, meanwhile, was appointed Germany boss after Julian Nagelsmann’s departure. The former Liverpool manager returned to the dugout for the first time since 2024, taking on the challenge of rebuilding Germany following their disappointing World Cup exit.

Klopp’s first match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Germany taking the lead through Felix Nmecha before Cody Gakpo scored a late equaliser for the Netherlands.

However, while Klopp made a positive start despite conceding late, one of his former Liverpool players endured a difficult evening.

Dutch Supporters Criticise Gravenberch

Ryan Gravenberch started for the Netherlands alongside Quinten Timber in midfield but struggled to influence the game as Xavi’s side attempted to control possession and build attacks.

The Liverpool midfielder completed 31 of his 35 passes, created one chance and won four of six ground duels during his 90-minute appearance.

His display quickly attracted criticism from Dutch supporters on social media, with some questioning his current form.

One supporter described Gravenberch as being badly out of form and questioned why Xavi continued to select him.

Another fan simply labelled his performance as “horrendous.”

There was also speculation from one supporter that Gravenberch could potentially move to the Saudi Pro League next summer.

Others criticised his lack of influence, with one fan arguing that he should not be starting for the Netherlands based on his recent club performances.

Another supporter summed up the criticism by stating that Gravenberch is currently “totally out of form.”

Despite completing the full 90 minutes against Germany, the 24-year-old will be hoping to produce a stronger performance in the Netherlands’ upcoming fixtures.

Xavi’s team still have matches against Serbia, Greece and Serbia again during the international break, giving Gravenberch further opportunities to convince his new manager that he deserves a regular place in the starting lineup.
