Jamie Carragher Apologises Live on Sky Sports After Praising Liverpool Star During Bournemouth Win
Jamie Carragher was forced to apologise to Sky Sports viewers after admitting he may have become too carried away while praising Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet during their 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.
Alexander Isak’s second-half goal secured all three points for Andoni Iraola’s side, keeping Liverpool unbeaten after their opening five Premier League matches.
While Isak received plenty of attention for scoring his third league goal of the season, Jacquet once again impressed at the heart of Liverpool’s defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The 21-year-old centre-back, who joined Liverpool from Rennes for around £60 million in July, has started all five league games and is quickly showing why the club views him as a major prospect.
Jacquet delivered another commanding display against Bournemouth, completing 88% of his passes while recording six recoveries, two interceptions and two clearances.
His performance prompted huge praise from former Liverpool defender Carragher, who said on Sky Sports:
“Am I getting carried away? I apologise to viewers at home… I’ve been really impressed.”
Carragher acknowledged that Jacquet will inevitably make mistakes because of his age, but insisted the young defender already looks like the real deal.
The Frenchman has also benefited from playing alongside Van Dijk, while Iraola previously backed him to succeed at Liverpool, saying he possesses “all the tools” required for the position.
After five Premier League appearances, Jacquet appears to be living up to those expectations — and Carragher’s enthusiastic praise shows just how quickly the youngster is making an impression.
