Liverpool Open Talks Over Michael Olise Transfer — But Iraola Faces a Tactical Dilemma
Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of making a long-term move for Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise during next summer’s transfer window.
According to a report from a respected source on X, the France international is believed to be “very keen” on a potential move to Anfield.
Liverpool’s interest in Olise is nothing new. The Reds have been linked with the 24-year-old for some time and continue to be viewed as a club in need of a natural, high-level right winger.
The failure to land Yan Diomande, who ultimately moved from Leipzig to Real Madrid, could potentially push Liverpool back into the market for another right-sided attacker.
🔴 Olise Remains a Major Target
Olise has established himself as one of the most productive attacking players on the right flank. Since the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign, he has reportedly recorded 60 goal contributions in 59 appearances across all competitions.
His Premier League experience and ability to make an immediate impact would make him an attractive option for Liverpool if Bayern Munich were eventually willing to negotiate.
However, there is one major tactical question for Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.
⚠️ The Tactical Problem Iraola Could Face
Olise has increasingly been used in a more central role for Bayern Munich and has also operated centrally for the French national team.
Bayern expert Christian Falk recently pointed out that Vincent Kompany is experimenting with Olise as a central attacking player, adding another dimension to his role.
That could create an interesting situation at Liverpool.
The Reds already have Florian Wirtz, who is expected to play an important role in central attacking areas. If Liverpool were to sign Olise, Iraola would have to determine how both players could operate effectively without constantly occupying the same spaces.
One possible solution would be to use rotational movement, allowing Olise and Wirtz to interchange positions while a dynamic right-back provides the width on the flank.
Another option could involve Wirtz moving into the spaces created by Olise, although that would require significant tactical adjustments.
For Liverpool, Olise would still represent an exciting potential addition, particularly because of his natural ability on the right side.
But if Bayern continue developing him as a central attacking player, Iraola could have a major tactical decision to make before approving the move.
