Liverpool Fans Furious With ‘Pathetic’ Star After Newcastle Stalemate

Liverpool Fans Turn on Jeremie Frimpong After Newcastle Draw

Liverpool were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Newcastle United at St James’ Park in their opening Premier League match of the season, with Jeremie Frimpong emerging as the main target of supporters’ frustration.

The game had plenty of emotion even before kick-off, with Alexander Isak returning to his former club and receiving a hostile reception from the home crowd. Both sets of supporters also paid tribute to former Newcastle manager and Liverpool player Kevin Keegan, who sadly passed away in July at the age of 75.

The match was the first competitive outing for Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola and Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle. Newcastle twice looked on course for victory after goals from Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock, while Cody Gakpo scored Liverpool’s first equaliser.

However, Dominik Szoboszlai converted a dramatic late penalty to rescue a point for the Reds.

Despite Liverpool escaping with a draw, Frimpong’s performance attracted plenty of criticism. The Dutch full-back received a 5.9 rating from SofaScore, making him Liverpool’s lowest-rated player on the night.

Frimpong won only two of his seven defensive duels, lost possession 17 times from 65 touches and was dribbled past twice. Liverpool journalist James Pearce also criticised his performance, describing him as repeatedly wasteful in possession.

His passing statistics were one of the few positives, with Frimpong completing 81% of his passes and creating three key chances.

Liverpool supporters were far less forgiving, with several taking to social media to express their disappointment. Some questioned his defensive ability, while others described his display as “pathetic” and even suggested he could become one of the club’s worst signings.

After struggling to consistently impress since arriving at Anfield last season, Frimpong now faces increasing pressure to prove his critics wrong and show Liverpool fans why the club invested in him.
