Liverpool Step Back from Micky van de Ven Pursuit as Tottenham Plan Defensive Reinforcements

Liverpool have reportedly cooled their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven, with the Dutch centre-back now expected to remain in North London despite recent transfer speculation.

The 24-year-old has been linked with several top European clubs in recent months, including Manchester United, Barcelona, and Liverpool. Earlier reports suggested Van de Ven would be open to a move to Anfield, particularly given the opportunity to play alongside fellow Dutch international Virgil van Dijk.

However, Liverpool are now believed to have shifted their focus elsewhere as they continue reshaping their squad under new manager Andoni Iraola. Defensive reinforcements remain a priority for the Reds, especially amid uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konaté’s future, but Van de Ven is no longer considered an active target.

Since arriving from Wolfsburg, Van de Ven has established himself as one of Tottenham’s most important players. His pace, composure, and partnership with Cristian Romero have helped form one of the Premier League’s strongest defensive pairings when both defenders are fit.

Tottenham are also working to strengthen their backline, with reports suggesting the club are close to completing a deal for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke. The addition of the Dutch centre-back would provide Roberto De Zerbi with increased competition and depth in defence ahead of the new season.

Despite growing interest from rival clubs, Spurs are understood to have no intention of selling Van de Ven. The defender remains a key figure in De Zerbi’s long-term plans and is viewed as one of the club’s most valuable assets.

For Liverpool, the decision to move away from Van de Ven indicates that alternative defensive targets are being explored as the club prepares for a new chapter under Iraola. Meanwhile, Tottenham will be hoping to keep hold of their defensive star as they continue building a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
