Manchester United have reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven as one of their leading targets for the 2027 summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their defence.
According to Football Insider, the Netherlands international is a priority target for Michael Carrick, who is assessing options to improve his squad ahead of next season.
The 25-year-old has become an important player for Tottenham, although the club’s struggles in the Premier League could potentially have an impact on his future in North London.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that United are looking for defensive reinforcements and believes there are few better options than Van de Ven.
The defender fits several of the qualities United are looking for. He has significant Premier League experience, remains relatively young, can operate on the left side of the defence and possesses exceptional pace.
Brown indicated that Van de Ven is currently very high on United’s list and could be viewed as an ideal option when Carrick decides to strengthen the backline.
Van de Ven’s speed, physical ability and defensive versatility make him an attractive target. He can play at centre-back or left-back, giving United additional flexibility.
United are reportedly keen to add more pace to their defence, and Van de Ven could provide that quality while also bringing valuable Premier League experience.
Tottenham’s struggles could also play a role in determining the defender’s future. Spurs have endured consecutive 17th-place finishes and have found consistency difficult to achieve during the opening stages of the current campaign.
Van de Ven stayed at Tottenham during the previous transfer window, but another difficult season could lead him to reassess his options.
Manchester United are not believed to be alone in their interest, with Liverpool also reportedly monitoring the Netherlands international as they consider the future of their defence.
However, Tottenham could be reluctant to part ways with Van de Ven given his quality and versatility. Any potential transfer would ultimately depend on the club’s position and the player’s willingness to consider a move.
