Bobby Duncan, the cousin of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, has experienced a turbulent career since his controversial departure from the club.
After impressing for Liverpool’s under-18s during the 2018/19 season—highlighted by his crucial equalizer in the FA Youth Cup final against Manchester City—Duncan was seen as a future star. His performances earned him recognition from manager Jürgen Klopp, who handed him his first senior minutes in a 6-0 pre-season victory over Tranmere Rovers in 2019.
However, just a month later, Duncan’s Liverpool career took an unexpected turn. In August 2019, his former agent, Saif Rubie, accused the club of “bullying” Duncan and stalling his development, despite his family ties to Gerrard. Liverpool swiftly dismissed these claims, releasing a statement expressing disappointment over the allegations while maintaining their commitment to working with the player privately.
Despite attempts to mend the situation, Duncan left Liverpool in September 2019, joining Fiorentina Primavera for a reported £1.8 million. His time in Italy was challenging, with only 12 appearances before he returned to England a year later to play for Derby County’s U21s. His struggles continued there, as he managed just seven appearances and 275 minutes on the pitch over two years.
In July 2022, Duncan secured his first senior move to Spanish third-division club Real Balompédica Linense. However, he again found limited opportunities, making only eight appearances before leaving upon his contract’s expiration in July 2023.
Now 23, Duncan remains a free agent and has kept a low profile, setting all his social media accounts to private.
