Former Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli couldn’t hide his excitement after Spurs secured a memorable 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, even taking a playful swipe at Chelsea legend John Terry.
Tottenham took the lead through an unfortunate own goal by Mike Penders on his Premier League debut before Mathys Tel produced a brilliant finish late in the game to seal all three points for Spurs.
Chelsea’s frustrations increased when Cole Palmer was sent off after receiving two quick yellow cards, leaving the hosts with an even bigger challenge as Tottenham pushed for victory.
The result was particularly special for Spurs, who had managed just one Premier League win at Stamford Bridge in the previous 36 years. Back-to-back league victories have now given Tottenham renewed confidence and lifted them to 12th in the table.
But the celebrations weren’t limited to the players on the pitch.
Dele Alli watched the match from the stands alongside former Chelsea captain John Terry and couldn’t resist having some fun at his rival’s expense.
The former England international shared several Instagram Stories during the match, including a clip showing Terry looking visibly disappointed after Chelsea fell behind.
Dele later posted a picture of the apparently empty seat beside him with the cheeky caption, “Empty seat here now?” while tagging Terry, seemingly poking fun at the Chelsea legend after Spurs took control of the game. 😂👀
He also shared images of the scoreboard and Tottenham’s celebrations before ending his updates with a photograph alongside former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
Dele spent seven years at Tottenham after joining from MK Dons in 2015. During his time in north London, he scored 67 goals and provided 59 assists in 269 appearances across all competitions.
Since leaving Spurs, he has played for Everton, Besiktas and Como. He also represented England 37 times between 2015 and 2019, including at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
For Tottenham fans, the victory was already worth celebrating. Dele’s playful dig at John Terry simply made the occasion even sweeter! 😂🤍
