Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has made an emotional admission about the tragic death of Diogo Jota, revealing that he is still struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss more than a year later.
Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, tragically lost their lives in a car accident in July 2025. The brothers were travelling from Porto to Santander, where they planned to catch a ferry back to England, when their car suffered a tyre blowout, left the road and caught fire.
The heartbreaking news sent shockwaves throughout the football world, with Liverpool supporters gathering outside Anfield to leave flowers, scarves and other tributes in memory of the club’s beloved number 20.
💔 Klopp Admits He Is Still Struggling With the Loss
In a newly released book titled Diogo Jota: Forever In Our Hearts, Klopp opened up about the moment he learned of the Portuguese forward’s death and the emotional impact it continues to have on him.
The German manager admitted that he was left speechless when he heard the news and has yet to fully process what happened.
Klopp explained that although he understands death is a part of life, Jota’s sudden passing was something he simply could not prepare himself for.
He also revealed that agreeing to contribute to the book initially seemed like an opportunity to reflect on his former player. However, once the conversation began, he realised how difficult it still was for him to talk about the tragedy.
The former Liverpool boss, who spent four years working with Jota after signing him in 2020, struggled to find the words to express his feelings.
😢 Liverpool’s Painful Loss Still Hurts
Jota’s death left a lasting emotional impact on Liverpool, with players and staff facing an incredibly difficult period while trying to continue their professional duties.
Andy Robertson previously admitted that the squad struggled to focus on football following the tragedy, highlighting just how deeply the loss affected everyone at the club.
Although football continues and Liverpool must keep moving forward, the pain of losing Jota and his brother remains a heartbreaking memory for those who knew and loved them.
Klopp’s emotional confession serves as another reminder that, beyond the trophies, victories and rivalries, football is about people, relationships and the bonds that last long after the final whistle.
Diogo Jota will forever remain in the hearts of Liverpool supporters. ❤️🕊️
