Liverpool are reportedly preparing their next signing following their successful hijack of Newcastle United’s move for Spanish winger Victor Muñoz.

Although the Osasuna forward had been strongly linked with Newcastle, reports on June 17 suggest Liverpool are now set to complete the deal after activating his €40 million (£34.6m) release clause.

The 22-year-old, who can operate on either wing and is currently part of Spain’s World Cup squad, is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield. Liverpool staff are already in the United States to complete his medical.

Muñoz enjoyed a solid season with Osasuna, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 36 appearances, helping them finish 17th in La Liga.

He previously came through the youth systems at both Barcelona and Real Madrid, and has already made senior appearances for Los Blancos.

The winger is expected to be the first signing under the Andoni Iraola era, with Liverpool now shifting focus to other targets, including RB Leipzig prospect Yan Diomande.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also suggested Liverpool are still planning to bring in at least one more winger this summer, despite Muñoz’s arrival nearing completion.

He explained that while Muñoz was seen as a low-risk, high-potential signing due to his release clause and modest wages, Liverpool’s recruitment team—led by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards—are still working on additional attacking reinforcements.

Romano also highlighted Bradley Barcola as another name on Liverpool’s shortlist, though competition remains strong, with Arsenal also showing interest in the PSG winger.

Barcola remains under contract at Paris Saint-Germain until 2028, while Diomande is tied to RB Leipzig until 2030.
