Arsenal Ready to Hijack Tottenham Star as Arteta Makes Huge Defensive Demand
Arsenal have reportedly intensified their interest in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero, with Mikel Arteta keen to bring another elite defender into his squad.
The Gunners have been monitoring the Argentina international for much of the summer, and recent reports suggest they have stepped up their pursuit despite Tottenham’s reluctance to sell one of their most important players.
Argentine journalist Gaston Edul claims Arsenal remain seriously interested in Romero, although they face strong competition from several European giants.

Romero has developed into one of the Premier League’s most respected centre-backs since joining Spurs. His former defensive partner Micky van de Ven has described him as “world-class”, while his performances for both Tottenham and Argentina have further enhanced his reputation.
The 28-year-old also played a crucial role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph and remains an important part of Lionel Scaloni’s plans.
Arteta’s determination to strengthen his defence comes at a crucial time, particularly with William Saliba facing a spell out with a back injury. The situation has increased the need for Arsenal to add another top-level centre-back before the transfer window closes.
The Premier League champions have already invested heavily in their squad this summer, including the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes, but Arteta reportedly wants one more elite defender.
A move for Romero would be a huge statement from Arsenal, especially if they managed to take one of Tottenham’s biggest stars.
Previous reports suggested Inter had agreed a deal worth around £34.2 million for the Argentine. However, Arsenal would likely have to offer considerably more to convince Spurs to sell Romero to a direct Premier League rival.
