Liverpool Consider Shock Move to Re-Sign Tyler Morton
Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to bring back midfielder Tyler Morton, just over a year after allowing him to join French side Lyon.
The 23-year-old came through Liverpool’s academy before leaving Anfield in a £15 million transfer during the summer of 2025. However, his impressive progress in France has reportedly attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, including his former team.
Liverpool Monitoring Morton’s Progress
According to TEAMtalk, Morton’s performances for Lyon have caught the eye of a number of English top-flight clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
Liverpool are said to be one of seven Premier League teams keeping tabs on the midfielder. Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brighton had previously monitored him, while Newcastle United, Sunderland, Everton and Liverpool have now reportedly joined the race.
Morton left Liverpool during Arne Slot’s time in charge, as the club looked to reduce the size of the squad and opportunities for younger players were limited.
The situation could be different under current manager Andoni Iraola, who has shown a willingness to trust emerging talent and give young players opportunities in the first team.
Morton Could Address Liverpool’s Midfield Depth
A January return could give Liverpool additional options in the defensive midfield position.
Morton has continued to develop his defensive awareness, passing ability and tactical understanding during his time in Ligue 1 and European competition. His previous experience at Anfield could also make his potential return easier to adapt to.
Liverpool could also benefit financially from the deal. The Reds reportedly included a 20% sell-on clause when Morton joined Lyon, which could give them an advantage if several clubs compete for his signature.
For now, any move remains dependent on whether Liverpool decide to make a formal approach when the January transfer window opens.
