Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Micky van de Ven as they consider potential long-term replacements for Virgil van Dijk.
The Tottenham defender has been admired by Liverpool for some time, with his qualities making him an attractive option. The 25-year-old is left-footed, extremely quick and has already established himself in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s interest comes as Van Dijk moves closer to the final year of his contract, while Tottenham have endured a challenging start to the season under Roberto De Zerbi.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool view Van de Ven as a player who could suit their long-term plans.
“Van de Ven is somebody who has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time,” Brown said.
“He would certainly fit the profile Liverpool may want when replacing Van Dijk. He’s left-sided, physically dominant and also the captain at Tottenham.
“There are concerns because he has been part of a Spurs team that has struggled, but his individual quality is obvious. Liverpool could potentially offer him an escape from that difficult situation.
“He ticks plenty of boxes, and if Tottenham’s struggles continue, a move to Liverpool could become attractive to him.”
Liverpool are continuing their background work on possible successors to Van Dijk, whose current contract runs until June 2027.
However, any potential move for Van de Ven could prove difficult. Tottenham only strengthened their position in August by handing the defender a new five-year contract before appointing him captain for the 2026-27 season.
Spurs have also made it clear that Van de Ven is regarded as one of the key players they want to build their future around.
The Dutch defender made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, including 34 Premier League games, and had already reached 96 appearances for Tottenham before the start of the current campaign.
