Liverpool’s midfield problems have become increasingly noticeable under Andoni Iraola, with the Reds struggling to find the right balance and control games from the centre of the pitch.
With several midfielders now being linked with potential moves to Merseyside in January, Liverpool appear to be preparing for a possible rebuild after allowing Curtis Jones to leave for a relatively low fee during the summer.
There is also growing speculation surrounding Alexis Mac Allister’s future. The Argentine reportedly made his frustration over not receiving a new contract known this summer, leading to increasing rumours that his time at Anfield could be coming to an end.
Despite being one of Liverpool’s standout midfielders at the start of the season, a new report from Football Insider claims the club currently have no plans to offer the 27-year-old a contract extension.
Mac Allister’s current deal runs until 2028, meaning Liverpool are under no immediate pressure to sell. However, with several clubs reportedly interested, the midfielder could eventually leave if the Reds receive a suitable offer.
Liverpool paid around £35 million to sign Mac Allister in 2023 and could potentially make a significant profit from his sale. However, his performances this season have also highlighted the need for the club to secure a replacement before considering an exit.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have recently committed their futures to Liverpool with improved contracts, while no similar progress has been made with Mac Allister.
For now, the midfielder remains under contract, but the latest reports suggest his long-term future at Anfield is becoming increasingly uncertain.
