Spurs ‘Considering’ Roberto De Zerbi Sacking as Early Replacement Favourite Emerges
Roberto De Zerbi could already be under serious pressure at Tottenham after a disastrous opening to the Premier League season.
Despite narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Spurs invested heavily during the summer, reportedly spending around £380 million on 10 new signings. However, the huge investment has yet to produce the expected results.
Tottenham are still searching for their first Premier League victory after five matches, having collected just two points from two goalless draws. Their struggles continued in the Carabao Cup, where they were eliminated by Liverpool following a 3-1 defeat.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham have begun assessing potential replacements for De Zerbi and could consider parting ways with the Italian if results fail to improve.
The pressure intensified after Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa, a result that pushed them into the relegation zone.
However, dismissing De Zerbi could prove expensive. His reported contract runs until 2031 and is said to contain no break clause, meaning Tottenham could potentially face a compensation bill well above £10 million if they decide to terminate his deal early.
For now, reports suggest Spurs are not planning to sack De Zerbi during the international break. Instead, the club could use the period to assess alternative managers and determine the financial implications of keeping or replacing him.
👀 Former Premier League Boss Emerges as Early Favourite
Mauricio Pochettino would naturally be linked with a sensational return to Tottenham, but another former Premier League manager has reportedly emerged as an early contender.
Eddie Howe, who left Newcastle United shortly before the new season began, is believed to be among the leading candidates should the Tottenham job become available.
During nearly five years at Newcastle, Howe guided the club into the Champions League twice and helped them win the Carabao Cup, making him an attractive option for clubs looking for an experienced Premier League manager.
Whether Howe would actually be interested in taking charge at Spurs remains uncertain, but his name is now reportedly high on the list of potential De Zerbi replacements.
